In simpler times change came slowly, if at all. Consultants could learn models and methods in graduate school and use them throughout a career. They could take a solution that worked with one client and confidently transfer it to another. Those days are past.

Consultants must be master learners and experts at inquiry. Clients will rely on useful questions much more than on answers that are good today and gone tomorrow. Theory and practice of human systems dynamics prepares a consultant to engage clients differently. HSD-informed consultants bring adaptive capacity to help clients tame the wicked issues that emerge from their complex environments. Wise consultants provide support when their clients face a future full of surprising problems that cannot be predicted or controlled.

In the complex uncertainty that plagues institutions today, consultants must come with better questions and work with clients to uncover answers that fit a particular challenge in a unique situation. This session will introduce you to the world of the Adaptive Consultant. In these two, three-hour sessions you will:

  • Learn about the basic dynamics of complex change and how it affects you, as a consultant, and your clients, as successful leaders in any industry.
  • Recognize and respond to the wicked issues that emerge from complex change.
  • Learn four simple models to help you support your clients' decision making, strategy, innovation, and productivity.
  • Practice talking about complexity to your clients so they are engaged and compelled to learn more.
  • Build a network of others who are creating the future of consulting with their colleagues and clients.

At the close of the sessions, you will be an Adaptive Consultant--prepared to guide and mentor your clients through their greatest challenges.
