Tamika CarwellAssociate since 2011
New Leaders for New Schools, Memphis Memphis, TN USA
Poised, passionate, and relentless are just a few of the adjectives that describe Tamika L. Carwell, School Performance Coach for New Leaders for New Schools, a position she assumed mid August in 2010.
As a School Performance Coach, Ms. Carwell serves dual roles. Both roles include assisting in improving academic achievement and instructional leadership by actively coaching New Leader Principals and actively participating in the development, implementation, and assessment of the Memphis Program. Ms. Carwell does this by working collaboratively with building leaders to develop an effective plan of action that is specifically targeted toward dramatic student achievement gains, on-going teacher and staff growth, and personal leadership development. As a member of the Memphis New Leaders for New Schools Local Team, she is engaged in a variety of projects and opportunities for the organization including Residency Curriculum development, the Local Summit Planning Committee, and the Effective Practice Incentive Community (EPIC) initiatives.
As former principal of Ida B. Wells Academy, Ms. Carwell was responsible for creating a culture of vision, leadership, and responsibility among her staff and students. “Our students must be prepared for the future and we are their greatest resources,” Ms. Carwell has stated. “To ensure they receive the best possible educational experience, my work has a laser-like focus on coaching and developing teachers and building a learning environment thriving in high academic and social standards.” Ms. Carwell’s mantra is, “We must become the change we want to see in the world.” (M. Gandhi).
