Within the HSD Institute, we have agreed that this short list of simple rules will be the guide for our behaviors. We have developed a list of behavioral expectations that describe how we intend to interact with Associates, partners, friends, and the world at large.

Teach and learn in every interaction.

  • Diverse individuals feel engaged with HSD
  • People comment on the ways HSD culture is different from others.
  • We continue to revise theory and practice as we learn new concepts and applications.

Search for the true and the useful.

  • Students leave classes with radical new insights and powerful new options for action.
  • Scholars and practitioners draw on expertise of HSD network members.
  • Associates are proud to tell others about their relationships to HSD.

Give and get value for value.

  • We hold each other accountable.
  • Associates commit time and resources to the good of the network as a whole and to the Institute.
  • People engage in mutually beneficial relationships around HSD concepts, models, and methods.

Share the HSD story.

  • Associates have the tools and confidence they need to share the HSD story.
  • The visibility of HSD increases quickly and in many sectors.
  • The number and diversity of individuals drawn to HSD increases.

Attend to the whole, the part, and the greater whole.

  • Associates see themselves as part of something larger.
  • More centers erupt in various places and spaces.
  • HSD practitioners are drawn more often into global service contexts.

Engage in joyful practice.

  • You hear laughter when HSD Associates are together.
  • Associates smile when they tell the HSD invitation to inquiry.
  • People want to draw their families and friends into the HSD conversation.
